Benefit From Our Inside Knowledge of the Education System…
We’re a husband and wife team and we’re both qualified teachers with a combined experience of more than 40 years in education. We’ve developed good reputations as classroom teachers and one-on-one tutors and we’ve conducted training seminars on evidence based teaching methods and improving student achievement.
Having worked with kids across different age ranges in a variety of schools, we know what really goes on inside modern classrooms and why some children struggle.
And we also have kids of our own, so we recognize the daily challenges in a hectic household with demanding young children.
Our children are still quite young, and although we mention them in some articles, we haven’t used their names because we value their privacy.
We haven’t included our full names either for the same reason. However, feel free to contact us if you want more information to validate of our credentials.
Why We Built This Site..
As teachers, we know that what goes on in the classroom is important, but we firmly believe that education starts in the home.
It’s no secret that parental input can have a massive impact on how well children do at school, particularly in the early years. And this is especially true with literacy.
However, parents need to be well informed if they want to provide effective support for their children, so they need access to reliable information.
Unfortunately, there’s a lot of conflicting information online about literacy. And too many sites are still recommending outdated methods which have been long since been shown to be ineffective or counterproductive.
Even when the advice is sound, some experts use confusing educational jargon that’s difficult to interpret.
Straightforward Advice That You Can Trust…
Our aim is to provide authentic information and practical guidance and resources for busy parents and teachers.
We’ve supplemented our professional knowledge and personal experience by extensively researching the most reliable sources of evidence to make sure our guidance is sound and up-to-date.
You will notice from the references in our articles that a lot of the information originates from renowned experts and from studies that have been published in respected academic journals.
However, we write in plain English to make the information in our articles as clear and parent-friendly as possible, without dumbing-down the important details.
Your Input Might Be More Important Than You Think…
Much of the research on literacy has been done in schools, but the methods we write about also really work when parents use them at home. We’ve had amazing results with our own children and we’ve helped many other parents improve the literacy of their children.
You really can make a huge difference to your child’s chances of becoming a terrific reader. In fact, you could be the most important teacher your child will ever have.
We hope you will find our site helpful and if you have any comments, or if there is anything you would like us to add to our site, we’d love to hear from you.
